Trump’s First 100 Days Mark Worst S&P 500 Performance Since Nixon Era
CFRA Research reports President Donald Trump’s initial 100 days in office delivered the poorest S&P 500 performance of any new presidency since Richard Nixon’s Watergate scandal. The benchmark index fell 7.9% between January 20 and April 25, narrowly avoiding the 9.9% plunge recorded during Nixon’s second term in 1973.
April’s dramatic selloff erased all post-election gains, with the S&P 500 plunging 10% across two sessions following tariff announcements. The index peaked at 6,144 in February before collapsing to 5,525 by late April, wiping out November’s rally entirely.
